BPJS is social security which, by labour law, all companies must provide to all employees. There are 2 types of BPJS. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Social Security Administering Body) is a public legal entity tasked with protecting all workers through 4 employment social security programs. BPJS Kesehatan (Social Security Agency of Health) is a social security agency in Indonesia that provides universal health care to its citizens. Employment tax applies to all employees in a company. The company will report the employment taxes monthly, and at the end of the year, the company must provide each employee with their tax receipt form to submit a personal tax return. The taxes vary depending on salary. The range of personal income tax lies between 5%- 35%, calculated on the total annual salary per person. For the tax calculation, the salary, bonus/commission, BPJS, marital status, and the number of dependents (for married +kids) are assessed for the final calculation. Once the company license is complete, the company can use the license to apply for expat staff. In order to employ expat staff, the company must hire a minimum of 10 local staff to one expat member of staff. For all Indonesian candidates, BPJS is mandatory, and employers can choose from two types. It is up to the employer if they wish to extend additional benefits such as lunch allowance, petrol allowance, housing, expat health insurance or relocation package.
